Job Description

Speech and Language Pathologist- Assistant 

Under the direction and supervision of a Speech and Language Pathologist, the Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) assists in supplementing, enhancing, and extending speech/language therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, direct activities with students designed to develop pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices for communication. The SLPA serves students who have identified speech and language disorders and may have other disabilities as well.

Responsibilities 

  • Implement the treatment program or the individual education plan (IEP) as designed by the supervising licensed speech-language pathologist.
  • Conduct carry-over activities to transfer a student's newly acquired communication ability to other contexts and situations. 
  • Represent speech pathology at the admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) Committee as directed by the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  • Conduct observations and prepare clinical materials.
  • Work with classroom teachers to implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students. Student Management 
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for maturity level and interests of students.
  • Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. 
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required including maintaining clinical records in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. 
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.

  • Additional responsibilities may include: after-school tutoring or Saturday school and are based on the needs of our students.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education : Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution is required. Communicative Science and Disorders Degree Preferred. 
  • Certification : Texas License as Speech - Language Pathology Assistant
  • Experience : 50 hours of Clinical Observation and Assisting experience as required licensure
  • Skills & Competencies: 
    • Strong knowledge of speech and language disorders and best practices.
    • Commitment to student success and a growth mindset.
    • Ability to build meaningful relationships with students, families, and staff.
    • Effective classroom management and instructional strategies.
    • Flexibility to travel between two campuses as needed.
    • Bilingual preferred but not required
