Job Summary: Newly Weds Foods is seeking an R&D Scientist to join its Chicago-based Research and Development team. The ideal candidate brings expertise in specialty batter systems, including corn dog batters and bakery mixes. Benefits:

Essential Functions
  • Conduct Product Development from bench scale through commercialization, including plant trials, specification development, and customer support.
  • Optimize formulations, ingredients, and processes for performance and cost efficiency.
  • Perform shelf-life evaluations, including organoleptic testing.
  • Participate in sensory testing.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure satisfaction.
  • Independently manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of customer products and manufacturing processes.
  • Lead problem-solving efforts and conduct root cause analyses.
  • Deliver product demonstrations and technical presentations.
  • Support internal innovation projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all R&D policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Work Environment
  • General office setting, food laboratory environment, and plant/production setting.
  • Period exposure to: (1) loud environment, (2) airborne particles with stronger odors associated with spicy food ingredients, (3) cold, hot, wet, and humid conditions, (4) walking and standing on concrete, (5) climbing steps, ladders, (6) standing on elevated surfaces.
Qualifications
  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Bakery Science, Food Science, Culinary Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a related field. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and an aptitude to become proficient in internal systems and platforms quickly.
