Job Description

The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks an exceptional French teacher to join the Modern Languages Department for the Fall semester of 2025-2026 as a leave replacement. 

This full-time teacher will follow the departmental curriculum in teaching four sections of French ranging from Classes V to XII. Our ideal candidate is a talented and creative linguist who feels at ease teaching across age groups.

Collaboration in both planning and assessment is central to the work we do within the Modern Language Department at Nightingale-Bamford. Therefore, candidates will be prepared to work closely within a team. Candidates will possess and communicate high standards for their subject matter and their students, and show a commitment to the best practices of teaching French through ongoing professional development. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to): 

  • Teach four different sections of Middle or Upper School French classes, as needed by the department.
  • Work with Modern Language colleagues to foster a joyful and immersive environment for linguistic and cultural learning.
  • Employ best practices of teaching French to provide our students with an excellent experience.
  • Collaborate with other faculty to incorporate language learning throughout the curriculum and in the life of the school.
  • Attend all Middle and Upper School faculty meetings and Modern Language Department meetings, and participate in related professional development activities and events.
  • Perform duties outside of teaching as assigned by the appropriate administrators. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required. Relevant advanced degrees preferred.
  • Native or near-native fluency in French.
  • Experience in teaching foreign languages to young learners. 
  • Knowledge of best practices in language pedagogy and second language acquisition. 
  • Enthusiasm for teaching languages.
  • Excellent classroom management skills. 
  • Demonstrated background of engaging with and adapting to diverse learners, creating developmentally-appropriate and varied activities, along with a commitment to the work of equity and inclusion, particularly within a school community and in the classroom.
  • Eagerness to work within a close-knit team, with a flexible and collaborative spirit.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new pedagogies, innovating within an established curriculum.

SALARY

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, this position's annualized salary range is $70,000 - $85,000 ($5,833.33 or $7,083.33 monthly). When extending an offer, Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) the position's scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market and organizational considerations.
