Job Description

Position : Executive Pastor/Director
Classification : Ministry Staff
Reports To : Lead Pastor
Direct Reports From : Worship, Discipleship, Connections, Kids Ministry, Students Ministry, Business Office (including Lead Accountant), Property Manager and Communications

Summary of Position:

The Executive Pastor (XP) provides strategic leadership that integrates business operations, financial stewardship, organizational health, and pastoral oversight. The XP partners with the Lead Pastor in shepherding staff and advancing Sent Church’s mission, vision, and values. The XP oversees strategic planning, human resources, finance (through direct supervision of the Lead Accountant), and ministry operations, ensuring that both the people and systems of Sent Church thrive in alignment with its mission. The XP also provides counsel and serves as a sounding board for the Directors of Sent Church’s subsidiary ministries, The Children’s Ark Preschool, Dayspring Senior Living, and Immigrant Connection.

Core Responsibilities:

Leadership & Staff Development:
  • Provide ongoing management and development to direct reports.
  • Meet regularly with ministry and operational leaders for alignment and accountability.
  • Assist staff with annual goal setting and vision alignment.
  • Guide team members in creating Ministry Action Plans that connect individual performance objectives to the overall strategic plan.
  • Provide relevant training, mentoring, and staff development opportunities.
  • Perform annual performance evaluations for staff under your leadership.
  • Ensure staff health, organizational health, and progress toward goals.
  • Oversee staff exit interviews, ensuring staff are cared for upon departure.


Financial Stewardship:

  • Oversee the annual budget planning process in collaboration with ministry leaders and the Lead Accountant.
  • Ensure financial practices support long-term sustainability, compliance, and transparency.
  • Provide financial analysis for the Lead Pastor, LBA, and other stakeholders.


Human Resources:

  • Oversee HR functions including compliance with employment laws, onboarding/offboarding processes, compensation alignment, benefits coordination, and fostering a healthy staff culture.
  • Ensure the organizational structure aligns with the strategic plan.


Operations & Strategic Planning:

  • Co-lead strategic planning processes with the Lead Pastor and ensure follow-through across all areas of ministry and operations.
  • Evaluate and improve administrative systems that support Sent Church’s mission and strategy.
  • Maintain a church-wide dashboard of key numerical measures of health, generated from the database, to provide regular snapshots of ministry performance.
  • Co-lead staff meetings with the Lead Pastor.
  • Provide counsel and serve as a sounding board to the Executive Directors of The Children’s Ark Preschool and Dayspring Senior Living.


Other Staff Responsibilities:

  • Attend required staff/creative/team/strategic meetings and events.
  • Be actively involved in some form of adult connection or discipleship group.
  • Visibly participate in Sent Church services, events, and ministries.
  • Maintain personal spiritual disciplines necessary for vibrant spiritual leadership.
  • Embody ministry practices and biblical qualifications of church leadership.
  • Passionately seek to fulfill the vision and values of Sent Church (see Handbook).
  • Faithfully model membership commitments of The Wesleyan Church (see Handbook).


Basic Job Requirements:

  • Ministerial Credentials (or a willingness to pursue credentialing through The Wesleyan Church).
  • Strong background in staff development and team leadership.
  • Proven expertise in organizational and leadership development.
  • Demonstrated experience in business operations, financial stewardship, HR leadership, and strategic alignment processes.
  • Experience guiding teams in creating Ministry Action Plans that connect individual performance objectives to an organizational strategic plan.
  • Experience in summarizing and reporting numerical measures of health in a church or nonprofit setting.
  • Ability to translate business best practices into a ministry context.


Education & Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant ministry and leadership experience.
  • Prefer a strong blend of business operations and ministry leadership experience.
