SALARY
$25 an hour (Part-time)
Schedule: 20 Hours a week (Monday 8:30am to 5:30pm, Tuesday 8:30am to 12:30pm, Thursday 8:30am to 5:30pm)

SUMMARY
Peace Over Violence is looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual to be part of our intervention division. We are seeking a professional with crisis intervention experience and an interested in supporting survivors of sexual and domestic/interpersonal violence. The Campus advocate provides comprehensive crisis support, education, safety planning and support survivors in reducing the impact of trauma through intervention, education, prevention, and community collaboration. This is an off-site position, working with our Cal State LA Partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide confidential crisis intervention, needs assessment and case management services for sexual assault, domestic violence, IPV and stalking survivors for students and/or administrators.

  • Collaborate with campus police, district attorney, school administrator and other campus based or community-based agencies to support survivors.

  • Manage a case load of 10-20 cases to provide advocacy, accompaniment, and referral services to survivors.

  • Will work to become familiar with federal and state regulations, such as the Violence AgainstWomen Act (VAWA), Title IX, and Clery Act.

  • Serves as a point of contact for survivors of sexual and domestic violence on campus, for survivors seeking confidential support, crisis response, advocacy services, referrals, and/or information.

  • Conduct safety assesses high-risk situations, to include evaluations of an individual's physical and emotional state and assisting individuals in crisis.

  • Become familiar with on campus resources to assist individuals with navigating resources and systems, as well as identifying resources and options for reporting crimes, seeking medical attention, and/or obtaining additional support services.

  • Accompanies individuals to tile XI hearings, medical/investigative procedures, on-campus administrative proceedings, meetings with law enforcement officials, and/or other related processes, as requested by the affected individual.

  • Provides referrals to resources available on- and off-campus; assists individuals in obtaining emergency support, including housing, food, clothing, transportation, substance abuse treatment, and counseling.

  • Maintains strict confidentiality of clients and records.

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a directly related field; at least 1-3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

  • Completed or intended to complete Peace Over Violence 82.5 hours counselor advocate training.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.

  • Ability to operate calmly and effectively under stressful conditions.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and advocacy principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of community resources and referral options for people in crisis.

  • Ability to provide resources, referrals, education, and advocacy for sexual conduct and for victims of sexual and interpersonal violence.

  • Ability to provide non-therapeutic services for people in crisis.

  • Knowledge of case management.

  • Strong listening, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

  • Skilled in facilitating problem solving with individuals regarding personal, professional and/or academic priorities.
